Notes: 1979 was the inaugural year. The course starts and finishes east of Tucson at 2670 feet (814m) and crosses
Tanque Verde Peak at 7000 feet (2134m) from east to west. The first 20 miles are on rough mountain trails; the
last 8 miles are on paved roads or desert trails. The 1990 race was run in reverse thru a closed area. Young was
detained by authorities for more than 30 minutes before he was able to complete the race; Davis and Johns took
an alternate route (roughly same distance) to the finish.
