This race was run from Marathon to Athens for all years.  For 1972-78, this race was known as the Athens Popular Marathon and was organized by the Greek federation (SEGAS).  For 1979 thru 1983, the race was organized by Mondial Tours under contract with SEGAS.  The 1983 race was held on the same day as the 1983 Lambrakis Peace marathon, starting at 10:30 am while the Lambrakis Peace Marathon started at 8:30 am.   It is reported that more than 100 runners started before the official start in the 1978 race.
