Notes: 1955 was the inaugural year. This event was biennial thru the 1969 race. The 1995 race was contested as the IAAF World Cup Marathon.  The 1967-1979 and 1996 races were held on the date of the opening of the first Olympic Games of the modern era in 1896.  The April 6th date (Julian) corresponds to March 25th according to the old calendar.  The first Olympic marathon was held on April 10th (Julian) which was March 29th on the old calendar.  The race was known as the Athens International Marathon for 1955-1965 and was held "in memoriam of Spyridon Louis" in 1986, 1987 and 1989.
